Nude on a Rock

Alfons Mucha 1898–1899 Bronze Courtesy of The Mucha Foundation

The life philosophy and rich oeuvre of the Art Nouveau artist Alfons Mucha (1860–1939) became a source of inspiration for the exhibition concept. His late work Three Ages is the ultimate distillation of the artistic heritage and philosophical aspects arising from it. Its validity spans the past, the present and the future. The immediate multisensory perception of the viewer’s imaginary ascent into the higher spheres of individual and collective consciousness through the work of contemporary artists as well as the abstract dimension of absolute humanity in Mucha’s diction finds its peak in the last niche of the exhibition, revealing an intimate sculpture of a girl. The so-called Nude on a Rock features a young woman in meditative repose over a body of water created by the Art Nouveau artist in his early period at the studio of his contemporary August Rodin in Paris.Three Agesis the ultimate distillation of the artistic heritage and philosophical aspects arising from it.
