Interactive presentation by the authors of the comic book collections Iogi (2022, Japan International Manga Award (bronze medal), Muriel Comic Book Award (best script)) and Hikobae (2024), depicting everyday life in various regions of Japan. Come and discover how, under their guidance, young artists from Europe have crafted poetic and sociologically authentic stories. Follow the journey they had to take to get as close as possible to a culture that was initially foreign to them and to pass it on to readers worldwide. Listen to the stories of the master ceramicist, Teppei Terada, the owner of the Terada Honke sake brewery, the architect who restores old abandoned houses, Kazuhiro Tōma, and others, which will take you to lesser-known places from the northern island of Hokkaido to Shimane Prefecture, from the mountain peaks of Gunma Prefecture to the sea coast of Shikoku Island. The stories are rendered in their distinctive styles by artists from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Russia and with Vietnamese and Ukrainian roots.
The project runs under the auspices of the Kulturalis publishing house, publisher of the English and Japanese editions of Hikobae, and the Ladislav Sutnar Faculty of Design and Art of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen.
