Teplárny Brno is one of the leading providers of heat and energy services in Czechia, exemplifying functional, environmentally friendly, and economically efficient urban energy solutions of the 21st century. The company supplies heat, electricity, cooling, and gas, and develops e-mobility solutions for over 105,000 households and hundreds of institutions through a 292 km distribution network.

In Osaka, it will present the unique 42-kilometer district heating project, which from 2032 will supply Brno with heat from the Dukovany Nuclear Power Plant. “Thanks to the Dukovany district heating and the diversification of energy sources, Brno will become the first major Czech city to be almost entirely independent of fossil fuels. This is a story we want to share in Osaka as well,” says Petr Fajmon, CEO and Board Member of Teplárny Brno, who will present the project at the Czech National Pavilion at EXPO 2025 on Thursday, 25 September 2025.

Alongside the district heating project, the company aims to showcase its expertise in utilizing waste heat, transitioning to renewable energy, innovations in e-mobility and Smart Cities, as well as sustainability projects including the shift to biomass. “We want to demonstrate that even a traditional energy sector can drive innovation and public responsibility. We are convinced that Czech know-how has global potential, and our experience—particularly in waste heat utilization and decentralized energy production—can be valuable not only for European but also for Asian markets,” adds Fajmon.

“Japan and other countries in the region face challenges similar to those of European cities—high population density, and pressures for sustainability and decarbonization. I believe that Czech companies like Teplárny Brno have a lot to showcase in Japan and can inspire with the European approach to sustainability and energy self-sufficiency in modern urban agglomerations,” comments Ondřej Soška, Commissioner General of the Czech participation at EXPO 2025.

Teplárny Brno will actively participate in the Czech National Pavilion program through expert presentations and networking sessions focused on sustainable energy and smart cities. The company expects the EXPO to help establish new contacts with technology partners, municipalities, and potential investors, as well as gain inspiration from the latest global trends in energy, digitalization, and sustainability. It also plans to transfer best practices from Asia to its strategic projects, particularly in smart city solutions and decentralized energy systems.

About Teplárny Brno
Teplárny Brno is part of the municipal energy group of the statutory city of Brno, which also includes SAKO Brno and CDENT. Together, they work to ensure efficient use of local energy resources, decarbonize the city, and develop modern, decentralized, and smart energy systems. In 2023, they established their subsidiary Energie Teplárny Brno (ETB), which centrally manages electricity and gas procurement for the city of Brno, its districts, contributory organizations, and other entities. Since January 2025, ETB has been supplying energy to over 240 clients and, through bulk purchasing and a long-term strategy, achieves annual savings of up to CZK 42 million, particularly in traction energy for Brno Public Transport. With strong support from the city, they are also advancing the Teplárny Brno E-mobility project, which is a key pillar of Brno’s Smart City strategy.

About the Czech Pavilion at EXPO 2025
In December 2022, after more than twenty years, the Office of the Commissioner General announced an open, anonymous architectural competition to design the National Pavilion for EXPO 2025. A total of 38 design teams submitted their proposals. In March 2023, a professional jury chaired by world-renowned architect Eva Jiřičná selected the winning concept: a glass spiral design by Apropos Architects. The pavilion’s main structure is made of modern wooden panels, while the façade features artistic glass—a material with a centuries-old tradition in Czechia. The Czech National Pavilion offers a dignified and functional space for Czechia’s participation at EXPO 2025, which will take place from April to October 2025 on the artificial island of Yumeshima in Osaka Bay. Inside the pavilion, visitors will find a permanent exhibition, a multifunctional auditorium, business facilities, a restaurant, and the CTP Lounge. In front of the pavilion, a seaside relaxation zone offers a scenic view for guests. The pavilion was officially approved in early April 2025 and is the largest wooden structure of its kind in Japan built without a metal support frame.
