President Petr Pavel will depart on Monday, 21 July 2025, for a four-day working visit to Japan. His itinerary includes stops in Himeji, Hiroshima, and Osaka, where he will attend the World EXPO 2025 and take part in Czechia’s National Day. The event will take place on 24 July 2025, marking the 165th anniversary of the birth of Alfons Mucha.
In the second part of his trip, President Pavel will travel to Tokyo. In the Japanese capital, he is scheduled to meet with top government officials, engage with the Czech community, and attend a security seminar.
As is customary, the president will be accompanied by a business delegation. A business forum will be held as part of the program, providing a platform to strengthen cooperation with Japanese partners.
Apropos Architects designed the Czech National Pavilion in Osaka. The transparent building, made of CLT panels and featuring a striking glass spiral, is a respectful tribute to the Czech pavilion presented in Japan in 1970. The pavilion was officially opened in April by Foreign Minister Jan Lipavský and Commissioner General for EXPO 2025, Ondřej Soška.
Since then, Japan and EXPO 2025 have been visited by Finance Minister Zbyněk Stanjura, Minister of Industry and Trade Lukáš Vlček, and Minister of Environment Petr Hladík. Among other prominent guests were Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba and King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands.
The last Czech president to visit Japan was Václav Klaus, in 2007 and 2008. Before that, Václav Havel made a four-day visit in December 1995.
