The Czech Office of the Commissioner General hosted a meeting on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, with the Commissioners General and other representatives from EU countries responsible for the preparations for the upcoming EXPO 2025. The meeting, chaired by Czech Commissioner General Ondřej Soška, aimed to demonstrate Czech commitment, boost the preparation process, and share as much information as possible among participants.
"The meeting of European states was very successful. During the ten-hour session, we discussed preparations for individual national participation, challenges we face as international participants in the World EXPO, as well as program coordination and details of the European Union pavilion. For countries that will not build their own pavilion or do not have sufficient space, I offered the opportunity to participate in the business program within the Czech National Pavilion," said Ondřej Soška.
About thirty representatives from EU member states gathered at the Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where the meeting took place. The session was opened by Ondřej Soška, the Japanese Ambassador to the Czech Republic Kansuke Nagaoka, and Concha Fernández de la Puente, Deputy Commissioner General of the European Union. Representatives from Belgium, Czechia, the European Union, France, Croatia, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Latvia, Hungary, Malta, Germany, the Netherlands, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Poland, and Portugal attended the event at the Czernin Palace in Prague, along with René, the mascot of the Czech participation, and Myaku-Myaku, the mascot of EXPO 2025.
The goal of the meeting was to show that Czechia takes its participation in EXPO 2025 very seriously and that it is capable of organizing a high-quality and enriching event, as planned for the Czech National Pavilion next year. Czech organizers also aimed to advance the preparation process and share essential information necessary for a successful national presentation with other participants.
