The Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition has announced that EXPO 2025, which began in Osaka on April 13, welcomed its one-millionth visitor on Wednesday, April 23. This important milestone was marked by a ceremonial event held at the plaza near the East Gate, featuring the presentation of commemorative gifts and an official photo session. The event was hosted by the Secretary General of the EXPO, Hiroyuki Ishige, and the official mascot of the World EXPO, MYAKU-MYAKU, was in attendance. The mascot has quickly become a favourite among visitors.
The one-million visitor mark was surpassed on the eleventh day after the opening of the EXPO—well before the start of the traditionally busy Golden Week holiday period. For comparison, during EXPO 2005 in Aichi Prefecture, the same milestone was reached six days later. The statistics also include staff members and media representatives.
A peak daily attendance was recorded on April 13, when 124,000 people visited the EXPO site. Interest in the exhibition remained strong and steady in the following days, confirming the sustained attention of both the public and the media. Organizers expect attendance to increase further as Golden Week approaches.
EXPO 2025 is taking place on the artificial island of Yumeshima in Osaka Bay and will run until October 13, 2025. The organizers aim to welcome 28 million visitors over the course of six months. Attendance is typically lower in the initial months and gradually increases as the EXPO progresses—a trend supported by statistics from previous editions.
