Czech government approves the country's participation in EXPO 2025 in Osaka, Japan
On Wednesday, 29 June 2022, the government of the Czech Republic decided that Czechia will participate in the EXPO 2025 General World Exhibition in Osaka, Japan. The Cabinet also approved the concept of the Czech presentation.
"In our modern history, we have participated in all General World Exhibitions and have always left an excellent impression. I am glad that after 55 years, when EXPO returns to Osaka, Japan, we have the opportunity to build on the successful Czechoslovak participation. This time we will focus on Czech talent and creativity, results in science, research and innovation, and sustainable solutions will not be lacking. Among other things, we want to present Czechia as an attractive tourist destination," says Minister of Foreign Affairs Jan Lipavský.
The concept for the upcoming EXPO is based on the tradition of Czechoslovak participation in world exhibitions, while at the same time it is planned to present the Czech Republic in Osaka using a modern concept of national presentation. Its author is Ondřej Soška, who won the open competition of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The proposals were assessed by an evaluation committee composed of representatives of seven ministries, business associations and the expert public.
Czechia will present itself at EXPO 2025 with a national pavilion, the construction of which should use cross-laminated timber technology, which combines both the possibilities of applying creative architectural concepts and elements of sustainability. Particular emphasis will be placed on a modern concept of the presentation form, taking into account the current possibilities and trends in the exhibition industry.
The Czechoslovak pavilion of the architect Viktor Rudiš achieved a phenomenal success at the 1970 EXPO World Exhibition in Osaka, with 11 million visitors during the exhibition. The upcoming EXPO 2025 will be another opportunity for Czechia to present itself to the Japanese audience and partners as a modern and innovative country that excels in modern technology and science and research, as well as in culture, education and sport.
The budget of the Czech participation is supposed to be CZK 290.2 million for the period from 2023 to 2026. Additional funding in the range of CZK 170-220 million will come from external sources.
