Among the partners of Czechia’s participation at the EXPO 2025 world exhibition—set to begin in less than a month and run until October 13, 2025—are the Czech steel producers MORAVIA STEEL and Třinecké železárny. The metallurgical giant has now joined other globally operating companies that support EXPO 2025 and Czechia’s presence at the event. The cooperation agreement was signed by Ondřej Soška, Commissioner General of Czechia’s participation at EXPO 2025, and Petr Popelář, Chairman of the Board of MORAVIA STEEL.
The MORAVIA STEEL Group is among the largest business entities in Czechia. Its participation in the EXPO 2025 world exhibition presents a significant opportunity to promote the quality and reputation of Czech steel on a global scale. “Steel plays an irreplaceable role in the industry. Its recyclability and applications in sectors such as eco-friendly transportation, energy, and modern engineering make it a sustainable material for the future,” says Petr Popelář, Chairman of the Board of MORAVIA STEEL.
Třinecké železárny, the largest company within the MORAVIA STEEL Group, boasts a nearly 200-year tradition. Today, it is the only steel mill in Czechia, producing around 2.5 million tons of steel annually. Its primary products include long-rolled steel items, such as rolled wire, structural steel, special bar steel, drawn steel, rails and rail accessories, wide steel, seamless tubes, and other metallurgical semi-finished products. The company exports its products to over 60 countries worldwide.
One of the key reasons MORAVIA STEEL and Třinecké železárny are partnering with EXPO 2025 is the exhibition's focus on cutting-edge technologies and sustainability. “MORAVIA STEEL continuously invests in modernizing its technologies and developing a product portfolio with higher added value. At the same time, we are fully committed to transitioning to low-carbon steel production in a sustainable way, actively contributing to environmental protection. Japan serves as a great inspiration for us in this effort,” adds Popelář.
The gates of EXPO 2025 will open on April 13. “In the Czech National Pavilion, we will showcase the very best that Czechia has to offer to the world. MORAVIA STEEL, which trades steel in more than 60 countries, is undoubtedly one of the companies that Czechia can be proud of on the global stage. Moreover, thanks to its recyclability, steel has enormous potential to play a key role in sustainable construction solutions for decades to come,” concludes Ondřej Soška, Commissioner General of Czechia’s participation at EXPO 2025.
About Třinecké železárny Founded in 1839, Třinecké železárny has carried on the long-standing tradition of metallurgy in Cieszyn Silesia for over 180 years. The company employs nearly 7,000 people, and together with its subsidiaries, it provides jobs for approximately 13,000 workers. Třinecké železárny operates a fully integrated production cycle, from coke production to the final hot-rolled steel products, producing up to 2.5 million tons of steel annually. Through continuous modernization and the implementation of new technologies, the company is actively reducing CO₂ emissions, with the goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
About the Czech Pavilion at EXPO 2025 In December 2022, after more than twenty years, the Office of the Commissioner General announced an open, anonymous architectural competition to design the National Pavilion for EXPO 2025. Thirty-eight studios have participated, and in March 2023 a jury of experts led by the world-renowned architect Eva Jiřičná selected the winning design: a glass spiral by Apropos Architects. The main structure of the building will be made of modern wood panels, while the façade will feature art glass, which has a centuries-old tradition in Czechia. The National Pavilion, which will be located on the artificial island of Yumeshima in Osaka Bay from April to October 2025, will provide a prestigious setting for Czech participation at EXPO 2025. The pavilion will house a permanent exhibition, a multifunctional auditorium, facilities for business meetings, restaurants, a CTP lounge, and a relaxation area overlooking the sea.
About the Czech participation at EXPO 2025 This will be the sixth time that Czechia has taken part in a world exhibition as an independent state. Ondřej Soška, who won the Ministry of Foreign Affairs selection process with his concept and theme "Talent and Creativity for Life", has been serving as Commissioner General since September 2022. Czechia aims to showcase not only what the Japanese already know and admire, such as Czech glass and classical music, but above all Czech innovations, nanotechnologies, promising start-ups and talent from the regions.
